Most nationalities can get a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and at the main land borders, or in advance from a Nepali embassy or consulate. Some nationalities must apply in advance; check before you travel.
What to prepare
- A passport valid for at least six months with a free page
- A passport photo (often requested)
- The online arrival form, which you can fill in before the flight on the Department of Immigration website
- The visa fee in cash; US dollars are the most widely accepted
Length of stay
Tourist visas are issued for 15, 30 or 90 days, multiple entry. They can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or its office in Pokhara, up to a total of 150 days in a calendar year. Overstaying brings a daily fine, so extend before the visa expires.
Chinese citizens
Chinese passport holders have been exempt from the tourist-visa fee since 2016. The visa can be obtained at the embassy in Beijing, the consulates in Shanghai, Lhasa, Guangzhou or Hong Kong, or on arrival.
Fees and rules change. Always check the current requirements on the official site of Nepal's Department of Immigration (immigration.gov.np) or with the embassy before you travel. We're happy to help you check.
